Head of process/project engineering consulting firm specializing in product and plant development including R & D of new technology and design of pilot plants, biotech facilities, pollution control equipment and revamp of existing plants. Clients include, Alcoa Electronic Materials, Allergan, ASiMI, BOC, Brunswick, Cameron Yakima, Purified Protein and Vical. Projects include HBr purification, corrosion and contamination control, electronic grade silicon from silane fluidized bed design and operation of pilot plant including worlds first laser powered fluid bed, R&D and facility design for GMP sterile filtration of hyaluronic acid, GMP production of monoclonal antibodies and enzymes, facility design for catalase and pharmaceutical packaging, development and design of patented carbon adsorption system, complete revamp of a carbon reactivation facility, including dust recovery, thermal oxidation of chlorinated VOC, heat recovery, quenching and caustic scrubbing, catalytic oxidation of VOC, waste minimization , improved spray booth operation for green tape, computer modeling of transient pressure in the drying of green tape and sweet milling of alumina. Recent projects include developing flexible encapsulated Phase Change Material for use in fire suits and medical devices and cyclonic reactor for simultaneous reaction of semiconductor gas effluent and removal of solid byproducts. Developing a disilane production process for a JV of Voltaix and Praxair. Filling glass microballoons with nitrogen for Lockheed Martin.

Position Title: Technology Director of the Silicon Division
Dates: April 1982 to June 1985

Responsible for the development of the Schumacher Silicon process, operation of the laboratory and pilot plant and supervision of Jacob's design work on the $7 MM demonstration plant including material handling of metallurgical and electronic grade silicon, high temperature and high pressure fluid beds, high purity distillation columns, hazardous waste bromination followed by oxidation to silica and bromine. Also developed continuous Czochralski crystal pulling and provided technical oversight to the $50 MM commercial plant design by Stearns-Catalytic.

Supervised process studies by Fluor and Kilborn in areas of coke handling and flue gas scrubbing. Responsible for pollution control aspects of the application for regulatory approval.

Hands on startup and operation of tailings neutralization facilities and refinery sulfur plant and transfer facilities, troubleshooting in sour water stripper, flare system, waste water treatment and crude fractionation (via modelling) and in offsites. Dispersion modelling and installation and operation of remote SO2 monitoring systems.
